Jeremy Broadhead Consultant Psychiatrist Kent has provided outstanding mental health care for over two decades. He joined Priory Hospital Hayes Grove as a consultant psychiatrist in 2002, following his work in New Zealand. By 2004, he had become the hospital’s medical director. Eight years later, in 2012, he was appointed clinical director for private practice at the Priory Group. Since 2017, he has fully focused on clinical work.
For more than ten years, he has led the Keston Unit at Priory Hayes Grove. This unit provides specialized care for NHS patients who face psychiatric challenges alongside autistic spectrum conditions. Through continuous dedication, Dr Broadhead has built a reputation for reliable, compassionate, and innovative psychiatric care.
Dr Broadhead earned an open exhibition to Exeter College, Oxford, where he studied medicine with a focus on neuroscience. He completed his clinical training at Middlesex Hospital Medical School, passing with distinction in 1983.
He initially practiced in general surgery, oncology, and neurology. Yet, he soon realized that mental health plays the most critical role in quality of life. This insight led him to psychiatry. From 1985 to 1994, he trained at the prestigious Maudsley Hospital in South London. His experience spanned old age, adult, child, and addictions psychiatry. During that time, he earned an MPhil researching bipolar disorder.
In 1994, he accepted a consultant post at the Bethlem & Maudsley NHS Trust. There, he developed the Mother and Baby Mental Health Services in Croydon. His efforts were recognized in 1998 with the Sir Graham Day Award for NHS service development.
Dr Broadhead has worked in mental health systems around the world. His career has included roles in the United States, Africa, and New Zealand. In 1987, he served as a research fellow at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore. He lectured in psychiatry at the University of Zimbabwe between 1990 and 1992. Later, from 1998 to 2002, he was clinical director for Mental Health Services in West Auckland.
In the UK, he continued academic contributions as an honorary clinical lecturer at the Institute of Psychiatry from 2003 to 2013. Throughout his career, he has taught mental health principles to varied professional groups and led research projects across continents.
With over 30 years of hands-on clinical experience, Dr Broadhead brings unmatched insight to psychiatric care. He blends academic rigor with practical expertise. His global perspective and commitment to teaching ensure that his work benefits both patients and fellow professionals. As a result, he remains a trusted leader in the field.
