Sarah Holt Therapist Southampton offers compassionate, expert support to individuals and groups navigating challenges like addiction, anxiety, and emotional wellbeing. She works closely with clients in one-to-one therapy, while also leading group sessions focused on self-awareness, mindfulness, addiction aftercare, and recovery. With years of hands-on experience and leadership in treatment programs, Sarah brings deep commitment and clinical expertise to every session.
Sarah began her therapeutic training in 1999, choosing a psychodynamic foundation. This method, rooted in the idea that early life experiences shape adult behaviour, allows for a solid framework. From there, she built a multidisciplinary approach. In 2008, she completed her Honours degree in Addictions Counselling at Bath University, incorporating person-centred therapy and elements of CBT.
Over time, she developed a specialisation in addiction recovery. Her techniques include motivational interviewing and the well-established 12-Step model. Because of her broad experience, Sarah adapts her approach to meet the specific needs of each client.
Sarah’s work spans many reputable recovery centres, where she supported not only individuals battling addiction but also their families. She understands that addiction impacts everyone close to the person struggling. Because of this, Sarah remains dedicated to holistic recovery—addressing mental, emotional, and relational aspects of healing.
In her previous role managing the Addiction Treatment Programme at Priory Hospital Southampton, she led a team committed to innovative care. Through this leadership, she gained deeper insights into effective recovery models.
Sarah holds a number of recognised certifications and qualifications, including:
BSc (Hons) in Addictions Counselling
Diploma in Psychodynamic Counselling
FDAP Accreditation
MBACP Membership
Certificates in Motivational Interviewing, Compassion Focused Therapy, and Coaching
Her qualifications reflect not only her academic background but her drive to continuously grow as a practitioner.
Sarah speaks with clients as a fellow human being. She listens carefully and validates each client’s unique experience. Although therapy can be challenging, Sarah believes it often leads to self-discovery and transformation. With the right support, clients can shift toward healing, change, and acceptance.
Because everyone brings a unique story to therapy, Sarah tailors each session to reflect personal needs and goals. She focuses on immediate relief from daily symptoms, while also helping clients explore underlying causes.
Sarah offers therapy for a range of mental health and addiction-related conditions, including:
Anxiety, stress, depression, and bereavement
PTSD and trauma-related symptoms
Addiction recovery (alcohol, cannabis, cocaine, amphetamines)
Personality and mood disorders
Sleep issues and sexual dysfunction
Medically unexplained symptoms (MUS)
She helps clients navigate adjustment disorders, manage anger, and cope with treatment-resistant conditions through structured, supportive care.
