Description

Garret Barnwell Clinical Psychologist Parktown North

I have more than seven years of clinical psychology experience and I have spent more than a decade engaging in community-orientated work.

Psychotherapy

I provide psychotherapy and assessments in person or online for adults, teenagers and young adults. My therapeutic style affirms the inherent value of each individual.

I am guided by what you bring to the therapeutic process and value the importance of the therapeutic relationship. I ground my work in evidence and will work with your personal strengths to overcome the challenges confronting you.

I have a warm approach, and therapy offers a space that is non-judgemental and confidential, where you may be yourself.

Some of the areas that I work on include (but are not limited to):
Existential concerns whether related to life and death, grief, or broader angst about the world we are living in.
Life transitions
Relationship distress whether at school, work or in your personal relationships
Occupational stress and burnout
Depression, loss and melancholia
Panic attacks, compulsions, or anxiety
Acute trauma, post-traumatic stress and other significant stress responses
Living with chronic conditions and illnesses (e.g., diabetes, pain and cancer)
Support during recovery from psychosis, hearing voices, paranoia, mania or other states that may be challenging to process.
Men’s issues (such as relationship conflict and masculinity)
Climate anxiety and eco-grief
