Sinmarie Pieterse, Educational Psychologist in Claremont
Sinmarie Pieterse is a highly experienced Educational Psychologist based in the Cape, holding a Master’s degree in Educational Psychology from the University of Pretoria. She is registered with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (PS 0040223) and has twenty-four years of experience in child psychology, educational and emotional assessment, psychotherapy, parental guidance, and career guidance.
Sinmarie began her career at the University of Johannesburg’s Institute for Child and Parental Guidance in 1993, providing psychological assessments, career guidance, psychotherapy, counselling, and parental guidance. She later worked at Gauteng’s Educational Aid Centres as an educational specialist. In 1997, she served as a school psychologist at Sonitus School for the Hard of Hearing and locumed at Procare, where she mainly worked therapeutically with sexually abused girls and children who experienced divorce, and conducted hypnotherapy with teenagers and adults.
In 2006, Sinmarie relocated to the Cape and joined the Centre for Student Counseling and Development at Stellenbosch University. From 2007, she focused on career and subject choice assessment and counselling at the Centre for Prospective Students, working in schools throughout the Western Cape. Over the years, she has developed a keen interest in hypnotherapy, completing training in ego state, Eriksonian, and medical hypnotherapy. Her areas of expertise also include play therapy, career guidance, psycho-educational assessment, and post-divorce counselling.

She has provided services in group contexts to learners and their parents across various schools in the Western Cape.
