Dr Shaikh has always had a strong interest in healthcare and education. She grew up in a small town and followed her dream of becoming a medical professional. Despite facing challenges, she completed her dental degree with distinction.

She first specialised in Oral Medicine and Periodontics. However, her passion for orthodontics led her to follow a new path. In 2000, she successfully completed her specialist orthodontic training.

Today, Dr Shaikh combines academia with private practice. She works as an Associate Professor and Senior Consultant in the Department of Orthodontics at the University of the Western Cape. There, she continues to support education and research. At her private practices, she focuses on expert orthodontic care.

She also holds an important place in South African orthodontics as the first woman of colour to qualify as a specialist orthodontist in South Africa. Most importantly, she finds great satisfaction in transforming smiles and helping patients build confidence, self-esteem and overall well-being.
