At Smiling Orthodontics Orthodontist Benoni, we provide a full range of orthodontic treatments in a welcoming and professional environment. Our clinic uses advanced dental technology, high-quality products, and trusted materials to support each patient’s needs. In addition, our team keeps up with the latest orthodontic advances through ongoing professional education.
We focus on your dental health and work carefully towards the best possible results. Therefore, we create treatment plans that match your needs and goals. Our orthodontic services support children, teenagers, and adults, while we also offer solutions for complex cases.
Dr. Herman Uÿs completed his dental training at the University of Pretoria in 1997. He then worked in general dentistry in the UK before specialising in orthodontics. By 2004, he completed his specialist training. In 2007, he obtained his intercollegiate specialty fellowship.
After returning to South Africa in 2007, Dr. Uÿs established practices in Pretoria and Benoni. Since then, he has continued to build his knowledge through local and international conferences. He treats a wide range of orthodontic needs and specialises in Class III malocclusions. He also offers aesthetic options, including ClearPath aligners and Incognito Lingual braces.
We assess children from seven years old to identify possible orthodontic concerns early. When needed, we start treatment between six and eight years of age to guide healthy jaw and tooth development. As a result, early treatment can help prevent future complications.
We use functional appliances, such as the Twin Block, to address bite problems in growing patients. These appliances guide the teeth and jaw through muscle forces. Treatment usually lasts about 12 months. Therefore, wearing the appliance as instructed plays an important role in achieving good results.
We provide comprehensive orthodontic treatment for teenagers. Our plans aim to create balanced, functional, and attractive smiles. We carefully plan each case to support strong long-term results.
Adults can also improve their smiles with orthodontic treatment. As long as the teeth and gums remain healthy, we can move teeth at any age. We therefore customise treatment according to each patient’s expectations and lifestyle.
For complex cases, we combine braces with jaw surgery, also called orthognathic treatment. This approach corrects severe misalignments and improves both function and appearance.
We use removable plates for minor tooth adjustments, especially in younger patients. Patients should wear these appliances for 22 hours each day. They can remove them when eating or brushing. However, consistent wear remains important for good results.
Functional appliances help correct bite problems by guiding jaw growth. Because these appliances rely on patient cooperation, patients need to wear them as instructed.
We fit metal braces, often called “train tracks”, to correct tooth misalignment. These cost-effective braces allow precise adjustments and provide long-lasting results. Patients can also choose coloured rubber bands to personalise their braces.
Ceramic braces use clear materials for a more discreet option. They blend with the natural colour of the teeth and provide an aesthetic alternative to metal braces.
We attach lingual braces to the back, or lingual side, of the teeth. Therefore, they remain hidden when you smile. We customise these braces for each patient to provide comfort and precision.
We offer ClearPath and Invisalign aligners for patients seeking a nearly invisible orthodontic option. These clear trays gradually straighten teeth and can be removed for eating and cleaning. However, they work best for mild to moderate alignment issues. Consistent wear is therefore essential for the best results.
We use Temporary Anchorage Devices (TADs) to provide extra support during orthodontic treatment. These small implants can improve treatment efficiency.
After we remove braces, we provide retainers to help maintain the new smile. Retainers help prevent teeth from shifting back towards their original positions. Therefore, they support long-term stability.
At Smiling Orthodontics, we personalise every treatment plan to suit your needs. Dr. Uÿs and our dedicated team use the latest technology to provide orthodontic care. Whether you need early treatment, an aesthetic option, or comprehensive orthodontic care, we can help you work towards a confident and healthy smile. Furthermore, we continue to develop our knowledge and skills so that we can provide up-to-date orthodontic treatment.
