Our Services

At Hopelands Cancer Centre, we offer a wide variety of services tailored to your specific needs. Our goal is to provide effective, patient-focused treatments that improve both quality of life and treatment outcomes. We will work with you to develop an individualised treatment plan, taking into account your cancer type, stage, and overall health.

Chemotherapy

Chemotherapy involves using powerful drugs to target and destroy cancer cells. These drugs can be administered intravenously or orally, depending on your treatment plan. Chemotherapy works throughout the body, aiming to cure cancer, slow its growth, or relieve symptoms. In some cases, it may be combined with other treatments to enhance its effectiveness.

While chemotherapy targets cancer cells, it can also affect healthy cells, leading to temporary side effects such as hair loss or nausea. However, the benefits of chemotherapy typically outweigh these side effects, especially when it helps control or eliminate cancer.

Radiation Therapy

Radiation therapy uses high-energy X-rays to kill or shrink tumours. This non-invasive treatment is highly effective for treating various cancers. Radiation can be delivered externally using a machine or internally through brachytherapy, depending on the location of the tumour. Most patients feel no pain during the procedure, though some may experience side effects such as fatigue or skin irritation in the treated area.

Radiation therapy is often combined with chemotherapy, enhancing the effectiveness of both treatments. This combination improves our ability to target cancer cells and achieve better treatment outcomes.

Brachytherapy

Brachytherapy is a type of radiation therapy that involves placing radioactive material directly into or near the tumour. By doing this, we can deliver high doses of radiation to cancer cells while minimising the impact on surrounding healthy tissue. This method is most commonly used for prostate cancer, though it can be applied to other cancers as well.

Once treatment is completed, the radioactive material loses its activity, and the seeds or capsules remain in the body without causing any further effect.

Stereotactic Radiosurgery

Stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS) is a non-invasive radiation therapy that uses precise beams of radiation to target tumours, most commonly in the brain. This advanced technique allows us to deliver high doses of radiation to the tumour while minimising damage to healthy tissue. SRS is an effective treatment for tumours that are difficult to treat with traditional surgery.

Using advanced imaging technologies, such as the linear accelerator (LINAC) and gamma knife, we can accurately target the tumour, improving treatment precision and reducing the risk of side effects.

Palliative Care

Palliative care is an essential part of our holistic approach to cancer treatment. It focuses on improving quality of life by managing symptoms and side effects associated with cancer and its treatments. Our compassionate team works with patients and their families to provide relief from pain, fatigue, and other distressing symptoms.

Palliative care is not only for end-of-life situations; it can benefit patients at any stage of cancer. Whether you are undergoing treatment or in remission, our team will provide the support you need to maintain comfort and dignity.

Immunotherapy

Immunotherapy helps boost the body’s immune system to fight cancer. It works by stimulating the immune system to recognise and attack cancer cells more effectively. This therapy can be used alone or in combination with other treatments like chemotherapy.

Immunotherapy offers hope for patients with certain cancers that may not respond well to traditional therapies. It helps slow cancer progression and prevents the spread of cancer cells to other parts of the body.

Hormonal Therapy

Hormonal therapy is a treatment that either removes, blocks, or adds hormones to the body. Some cancers, such as breast or prostate cancer, rely on hormones to grow. By blocking or lowering these hormones, we can control or reduce cancer growth.

Hormonal therapy is often used alongside other treatments like chemotherapy or radiation therapy to provide comprehensive cancer care.

Targeted Therapy

Targeted therapy is an advanced treatment that focuses on specific molecules within cancer cells. It uses drugs to target these molecules, preventing cancer cells from growing and spreading. Targeted therapy often complements chemotherapy and other treatments to provide more effective results while limiting damage to healthy cells.

Clinical Trials

Hopelands Cancer Centre offers patients the opportunity to participate in clinical trials. These trials provide access to new and innovative treatments still in development. Clinical research has contributed significantly to advances in cancer treatment, and participation in a trial can give patients access to cutting-edge therapies that may improve their outcomes.
