Dr Janesh P Ganda Sports Physician Observatory has been actively involved in Sports and Exercise Medicine since 2016. His expertise spans across professional rugby teams, national squads, and elite athletes. With years of hands-on experience, he remains committed to advancing sports medicine through research and clinical practice.

Extensive Experience in Sports Medicine

Dr Janesh Ganda began his journey in sports medicine as a Team Physician for the Boland Cavaliers from June 2016 to October 2017. During this time, he worked closely with leading consultants from Cape Sports Medicine and UCT.

In 2018, he took on the role of Team Physician for the Junior Western Province rugby structures. He managed squads in the Supersport Challenge under Coach John Dobson and led the U21 Currie Cup team through a successful season. Furthermore, he played a crucial role in preparing the Springbok Women’s team for their return to international rugby, culminating in their tour to Wales, Spain, and Italy.

Leadership in National and International Rugby

Dr Janesh P Ganda Sports Physician Observatory has had the honor of working with top-tier rugby teams. In 2019, he was appointed Team Doctor for the Junior Springboks, guiding them to a third-place finish at the Junior World Cup in Argentina. Additionally, he has served as Team Physician for the SA Schools side in the annual AON Series held in Cape Town.

In 2022, he further cemented his expertise by joining the Springbok Sevens team as their Team Doctor. His contributions to sports medicine continue to shape the health and performance of elite athletes in South Africa and beyond.

Research and Specialized Interests

Dr Janesh Ganda is currently pursuing his PhD through Wits University, focusing on concussion in rugby union players. His research aims to enhance athlete safety and improve concussion management strategies.

His special interests include:

• Acute and chronic musculoskeletal injuries
• Rehabilitation-driven recovery
• The use of infiltrations for injury management
• Concussion treatment and protocols

As the Western Cape Co-chair for SASMA (South African Sports Medicine Association), he plays a pivotal role in shaping the future of sports medicine in the region.
