About

Dr. Jean-Louis du Plooy is a dedicated psychiatrist with a passion for mental health. He graduated with an MBChB from the University of the Free State, later pursuing his MMed (Psych) from Stellenbosch University. His passion for psychiatry grew during his early experiences in the public sector, which guided his decision to specialize in mental health care.

In 2013, Dr. du Plooy earned a Diploma in Mental Health from the Colleges of Medicine of South Africa and soon began his registrar training in Psychiatry at Stellenbosch University. During this period, he published his Master’s thesis in an open-access international journal, further contributing to the field.

Since joining Panorama Psychiatry and Memory in 2017, Dr. du Plooy has honed his expertise in general adult psychiatry and old age psychiatry, with a particular focus on mood and anxiety disorders. Outside of his professional life, he is a family man, enjoying time with his wife, two sons, and their two dogs and two cats.
