Dr. Bernie Maree is a highly skilled general surgeon specializing in surgical gastroenterology. He grew up in Bloemfontein and graduated from the University of the Free State in 2002. After completing his internship at Edendale Complex and community service at Frere Hospital, Dr. Maree gained valuable experience in the United Kingdom. He then earned his Fellowship of the College of Surgeons at Stellenbosch University in 2011.

Dr. Maree has a special interest in gastric and colorectal surgery. He regularly participates in academic meetings and workshops at Groote Schuur Hospital. As a proctor for laparoscopic hernia surgery, he also leads laparoscopic suturing workshops at Red Cross Children’s Hospital.

Dr. Maree is a passionate sportsman who earned provincial and national colours at university. He enjoys mountain biking and spending time outdoors with his family. He is married to Nicky Brice, a paediatric rheumatologist, and they have three children.
