About Nicole Van Wyk

As a clinical psychologist, I specialise in assisting both children and adults with a range of psychological challenges. My therapeutic style is tailored to each individual, ensuring that the approach best suits their unique needs.

With a Master’s degree in Clinical Psychology from the University of KwaZulu-Natal, I have developed expertise in several therapeutic approaches, including:

  • Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy (CBT) – Helping individuals recognise and alter negative thinking patterns.

  • Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT) – Teaching emotional regulation and coping strategies.

  • Psychodynamic Therapy – Exploring unconscious influences on behaviour and relationships.

Additionally, I have undertaken extensive training in medico-legal practice, time-limited dynamic psychotherapy, motivational interviewing, and substance abuse intervention. I am currently pursuing a PhD in Paediatric Neuropsychology at the University of Cape Town, focusing on child brain development and psychological well-being.

Common reasons people seek psychotherapy include:

  • Trauma and PTSD

  • Depression and anxiety

  • Grief and loss

  • Relationship difficulties

We conduct assessments for:

  • ADHD and Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)

  • Personality traits and disorders

  • Mood-related conditions

Psycho-Legal Assessment

A psycho-legal assessment is a specialised evaluation within a legal context, often required for court proceedings. As an expert witness, I provide objective and unbiased reports to assist the legal process in matters concerning mental health.

These assessments are useful in:
