About Carien du Toit

Carien du Toit is a psychologist passionate about helping individuals, couples, and families navigate their personal journeys. With a deep commitment to promoting emotional growth and well-being, she uses her expertise to help clients gain self-awareness and acceptance.

Carien started her practice in 2005 in the Northern suburbs of Cape Town. She ran her practice until 2012 and also worked part-time at the Child and Family Guidance Clinic and Kaleidoscope Child and Family Clinic. During this time, she gained extensive experience in child, adolescent, and family psychotherapy. Additionally, Carien specialises in couples therapy and has received specialised training in Imago Relationship Therapy, which helps couples build deeper connections and resolve conflicts.

Carien holds a Master’s degree in Counselling Psychology (Cum Laude) from Stellenbosch University. She is registered with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (PS 0090603) and the Board of Health Care Funders of South Africa (PR 0182826). Carien has also worked as a lecturer at Stellenbosch University from 2002 to 2010, teaching subjects like Group Work, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, and Psychopathology.

In addition to her practice, Carien published research on resilience in remarried families in the American Journal of Family Psychology. She has also gained hands-on experience through internships at TC Newman Hospital and Franschhoek Clinic.

The course consists of six 60-minute sessions, designed to guide couples toward a deeper understanding of each other.

Couples Therapy

Couples therapy helps partners reconnect and address issues like communication breakdowns, emotional disconnection, or unresolved conflict. Carien uses Imago Couples Therapy to assist couples in creating intimate, committed relationships. Sessions are typically 50-75 minutes long.

Family Therapy

Family therapy focuses on resolving conflicts within the family system. Carien helps families improve communication, address issues, and work together toward solutions. The aim is to enhance understanding and strengthen family bonds. Sessions last between 50-75 minutes.

In-Hospital Sessions

Carien provides in-hospital therapy for individuals who need support while hospitalised. These sessions offer therapeutic support during medical treatment, helping clients navigate emotional challenges while recovering. Sessions are 75 minutes long.
