Jean Dixon is a highly experienced Psychiatric Nurse with a distinguished career in leadership within the nursing profession.  Throughout her career, Jean has played a key role in establishing and managing various treatment centres focused on recovery from addiction.

Recovery Assistants Course

This specialised part-time course is designed for individuals seeking to provide professional support for recovery from various forms of addictive behaviours. Taught by a team of qualified and experienced trainers, it includes 50 supervised internship hours at registered treatment facilities.

 

  • Provides a foundational understanding of addiction, treatment, and recovery
  • Develops essential counselling skills, including an introduction to Motivational Interviewing
  • Incorporates personal development tools such as journaling and reflective feedback
  • Runs over 12 weeks
  • Fortnightly sessions on Fridays from 16:30 – 18:30
  • Regular assignments and personalised feedback
  1. Chemical Addictions – Understanding substance-related disorders
  2. Complex Issues – Addressing co-occurring disorders and behavioural addictions
  3. Communication Skills – Developing effective counselling techniques
  4. Recovery, Relapse & Other Topics – Exploring long-term recovery strategies

Supervision & Training for Addiction Treatment Professionals

Jean provides professional development opportunities for addiction treatment professionals, including:

  • Individual and group supervision for staff working in addiction treatment
  • Consultation services to help organisations develop and maintain healthy systems and structures
  • One-day training workshops on key topics such as:
    • A Systemic Approach to Recovery from Addiction
    • Communication & Boundaries in the Workplace

A Family Systems Approach to Recovery from Addiction

Addiction affects not only the individual but also their entire network of relationships. Current research highlights the effectiveness of a systemic approach that involves social and familial networks in the recovery process. Jean offers:
