Dr Frits Spruyt is a Plastic & Reconstructive Surgeon based in Erasmuskloof. He earned his MBChB from the University of the Free State in 2007 and subsequently completed his FC Plast Surg (SA) in 2017, followed by an MMed (Plast Surg) in 2018 . Moreover, Dr Spruyt undertook advanced microsurgical training under Prof J.F. Jooste in Bloemfontein, which refined his expertise in microsurgical flap reconstruction and complex defect repairs.
Early in his career, he served in Port Elizabeth’s trauma unit, managing acute injuries and burns, and thus built a solid foundation in reconstructive principles. At Mediclinic Kloof, he now leads the reconstructive surgery service, mentoring junior surgeons and championing evidence-based protocols. Consequently, each patient benefits from a collaborative treatment plan that balances surgical precision with compassionate support.
Dr Spruyt offers a broad array of reconstructive, cosmetic, and microsurgical procedures, each tailored to individual needs:
Breast Reconstruction: Autologous flap transfers and implant-based techniques, enhanced by microsurgical free-flap expertise for optimal outcomes.
Skin Cancer Reconstruction: Mohs-guided excisions followed by local and regional flap repairs, which restore form and function.
Cleft Lip & Palate Repair: Primary and revision surgeries incorporating muscle reconstruction and speech-friendly design.
Microsurgery: Digital replantation, hand and foot microsurgical repairs, and vascularized tissue transfers using high-power microscopes.
Aesthetic Procedures: Facelifts, rhinoplasty, and non-surgical treatments such as Botox and dermal fillers, delivered with artistic precision.
Scar Revision & Laser Therapy: Fractional CO₂ laser and silicone-gel protocols that optimize scar remodeling.
Endoscopic Techniques: Minimally invasive brow lifts and body-contouring via high-definition cameras, which reduce recovery time.
Fat Grafting & Stem-Cell Enrichment: Autologous fat transfer combined with regenerative cell technologies for soft-tissue augmentation.
Patient Education & Counselling: Detailed preoperative workshops and personalized recovery roadmaps, so you feel informed every step of the way.
Mediclinic Kloof features dedicated microsurgery theatres, a 3D imaging suite, and advanced laser and endoscopy facilities. In addition, on-site pathology provides rapid histological feedback, while the fully equipped pharmacy ensures immediate access to medications . Consequently, Dr Spruyt can coordinate complex reconstructions without delay.
Furthermore, he remains at the forefront of innovation, having performed Mediclinic Kloof’s first minimally invasive trunk contouring in early 2025 and presenting on microsurgical flap innovations at national conferences. He also contributes to peer-reviewed journals and chairs the hospital’s surgical audit committee, promoting quality improvement and patient safety.
