Quentin Campbell-Hewson Consultant Paediatric Oncologist Newcastle provides expert care in solid tumours, sarcomas, early-phase clinical trials, and palliative care at the Great North Children’s Hospital. With a deep commitment to children’s health, Dr Quentin Campbell-Hewson offers both medical excellence and compassionate support to young patients and their families.
Dr Campbell-Hewson began his medical journey in Edinburgh in 1988. He then trained as a paediatrician in some of the most respected hospitals in Leeds, Manchester, Brisbane, and Newcastle. Since 2003, he has served as a Consultant Paediatric Oncologist in Newcastle, helping to shape the future of paediatric cancer care.
Because of his broad experience, he delivers informed and personalised treatment plans. Moreover, his decades of work in the field contribute significantly to paediatric oncology in the region.
In addition to his clinical role, Dr Campbell-Hewson also plays a critical part in training future medical professionals. As the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health College Tutor for Newcastle, he guides junior doctors through hands-on experience. As a result, children’s services in Newcastle continue to grow stronger with every new generation of doctors.
Transitioning from care to innovation, Quentin Campbell-Hewson Consultant Paediatric Oncologist Newcastle co-founded the “INCLuDE” early-phase clinical trial network. This initiative connects researchers across Northern England, Scotland, and Northern Ireland. The success of this network led to similar systems being adopted throughout the UK.
Furthermore, he serves on the UK Experimental Medicines Cancer Group Paediatric Network Strategy Group and the European Innovative Therapies for Children’s Cancer consortium. Through these roles, he supports ongoing improvements in paediatric cancer treatment on a global level.
Dr Campbell-Hewson leads research efforts across the North East and North Cumbria as the Specialty Group Lead for Children’s Research at NIHR CRN. He also champions Newcastle’s children’s clinical research initiatives. Additionally, he acts as the Children’s Cancer Theme Lead for the NIHR CYPMed Tech Cooperative.
As Principal Investigator, he leads both early and late-phase clinical trials for sarcoma patients. His role on the NCRI Sarcoma Clinical Study Group ensures these trials remain cutting-edge and impactful.
