Alicia Horak is a registered Clinical Psychologist in Durbanville, offering professional psychological services to children, adolescents, and adults. Her compassionate, evidence-based approach helps clients navigate emotional, behavioural, and relational challenges in a safe and supportive therapeutic environment.
Alicia completed her psychology training at Stellenbosch University, earning both her undergraduate and honours degrees in Psychology. She went on to complete a Postgraduate Certificate in Education (Foundation Phase) through UNISA and spent two years teaching Grade 1 learners at Simonsberg Primary School. This early teaching experience enriched her understanding of child development and learning difficulties, forming the foundation for her later clinical work with children.
Her internship in Psychometry under the guidance of Dr. Anthony Costandius, a Counselling Psychologist in Durbanville, provided valuable experience in psychometric testing, as well as working with behavioural, emotional, and scholastic challenges in children and adolescents.
Alicia earned her Master’s Degree in Clinical Psychology from Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University (NMMU). During her training and clinical internship at Stikland Hospital and Tygerberg Hospital, she worked with individuals presenting a wide range of psychological difficulties, from mood and anxiety disorders to severe mental illness. She gained extensive experience in neuropsychological assessments, individual psychotherapy, group therapy, and community mental health initiatives.
Currently in independent private practice in Durbanville, Alicia provides psychotherapy and assessment services to children, adolescents, and adults. Her work is grounded in empathy, clinical insight, and a holistic understanding of each person’s needs. She collaborates closely with multidisciplinary teams when necessary to ensure integrated care and meaningful outcomes for her clients.
Her therapeutic approach is flexible and client-centered, incorporating principles from cognitive-behavioural therapy (CBT), psychodynamic therapy, play therapy, and neuropsychological frameworks.
In addition to her private practice, Alicia contributes to Community Keepers, a non-profit organisation that provides psychological support within school communities. She offers bi-weekly therapeutic sessions to children in two Durbanville schools, reflecting her commitment to accessible mental health care for all.
