About

Annalie Meyer is an Occupational Therapist at Optima Rustenvrede in Stellenbosch. She began her career in 2014 and has since worked in various mental health settings. Her experience includes lecturing at the University of Pretoria, providing vocational rehabilitation, and conducting outpatient treatment. Additionally, Annalie has led occupational therapy groups at several psychiatric hospitals.

From 2015 to 2018, Annalie worked at Denmar Specialist Psychiatric Hospital. There, she developed a passion for group therapy. To further enhance her skills, she completed courses in advanced group work, psychodrama, and experiential therapy. In 2021, Annalie became an OTGrow facilitator. OTGrow focuses on continuous professional development for therapists using group work.

• Group Therapy: Annalie leads therapeutic groups using the Interactive Groupwork Model (IGM). These sessions focus on building self-awareness, emotional regulation, and resilience.

• Individual Occupational Therapy: In one-on-one sessions, Annalie uses sensory intelligence principles to create personalized sensory profiles. This approach helps clients manage emotions and improve daily functioning.

• Anxiety Management: Annalie teaches strategies to manage anxiety. She also helps patients develop routines and habits for a balanced, fulfilling life.

• Creative Therapies: Using art, drawing, and movement, Annalie helps patients express emotions and develop coping skills.

• DBT (Dialectical Behavior Therapy): Annalie incorporates DBT techniques for clients with anxiety and emotional difficulties. This helps patients develop mindfulness and emotional regulation.

• Resilience Building: Annalie helps clients build resilience through group and individual sessions. This work empowers patients to overcome life’s challenges.

Additional Information

Optima@RustenVrede is a private psychiatric clinic located in Banhoek Valley, Stellenbosch. The clinic offers specialized care for children, adolescents, and adults with mental health challenges. It is one of the first in South Africa to allow children with emotional issues to stay with a parent during treatment.

The clinic’s multidisciplinary team includes psychiatrists, pediatricians, clinical psychologists, neuropsychologists, occupational therapists, dietitians, and physiotherapists. The facility was designed to create a healing environment with carefully planned spaces that promote recovery.

Optima@RustenVrede treats a wide range of mental health issues, developmental disorders, and crises. Most patients stay for two weeks, though the length of stay can vary. The team works closely to develop personalized treatment plans for each patient, ensuring the best care.
