Roy Brooks, born in 1942 in Pretoria, is a self-taught artist who works with great passion. He uses pastels, oils, acrylics, pencil, watercolour, and mixed media. He focuses mainly on animals and people, and his style stands out clearly. His work appears in private and corporate collections across the world. Over time, he has also won several awards and taken part in many exhibitions.
Linsey Brooks works as a ceramicist and teacher. She guides students step by step while they explore their creativity. She creates a relaxed and supportive environment. In addition, she continues the legacy of her mother, Mary Brooks, by sharing deep knowledge and strong skills with every student.
Mary Brooks, born in 1948 in Benoni, Gauteng, built a strong name in ceramics. She trained under well-known artists and created both useful and decorative ceramic pieces. Many of her works are found in homes across Southern Africa and overseas. She also exhibited at Ceramic SA Exhibitions and reached the Top 15 at the Ekurhuleni National Fine Arts Exhibitions in 2005 and 2007. Although she is now retired, she trusts Linsey to carry the studio forward.
The studio offers a range of creative services. Roy Brooks accepts art commissions in many styles and mediums. He works closely with clients to bring their ideas to life.
Linsey Brooks runs ceramic classes that focus on creativity and group learning. She teaches different techniques while encouraging free expression. These classes suit both beginners and those with experience.
The studio also showcases and sells artwork. Visitors can view and purchase Roy’s pieces, including animal paintings and mixed media works.
The artists at Brooks Art & Pottery Studios Edenvale have gained recognition both locally and internationally. Their work appears in collections across the UK, Germany, Italy, France, Japan, and the USA. Locally, pieces can be found at the Palace of the Lost City Hotel at Sun City and in many private and corporate collections.
Roy Brooks received several awards, including Outstanding Achievement in Mixed Media in New York in 1998, the Ekurhuleni Mayoral Achievers Award for Fine Art in 2002, and recognition in the South African Mint Design Competition in 2007.
He has also exhibited widely. Early exhibitions took place in Durban and Pietermaritzburg. Later, he showed work in Johannesburg, Springs, Benoni, and Edenvale. Today, his work continues to appear in galleries, art groups, and online platforms.
