Description

Cumbria Psychotherapy Counselling & Neurofeedback – Carlisle

About

Welcome to Cumbria Psychotherapy Counselling & Neurofeedback. My name is Abi Finnegan, and I am a Trauma-Informed Integrative Psychotherapist based in Carlisle. I also work as a Clinical Supervisor, Neurofeedback Practitioner, and Trainer.

I specialise in working with individuals who have experienced developmental trauma, Complex PTSD, PTSD, dissociation, grief, chronic pain, and related emotional difficulties. Additionally, I offer support for anxiety, low mood, and issues sometimes labelled as “personality disorders.”

With more than 20 years of experience, I have worked in the NHS, the voluntary sector, and private practice. I hold an MSc in Integrative Psychotherapy and a Postgraduate Certificate in Clinical Supervision. Furthermore, I teach and train future therapists as a Teaching Fellow at the University of Edinburgh.

Starting therapy can feel daunting. However, I aim to make the experience comfortable by working at your pace and responding to your needs in a way that feels right for you. Sessions are available both in person and online.

Services

I offer a range of therapeutic approaches that combine psychological and physical support. These services include:

  • Integrative Psychotherapy – A flexible approach tailored to your specific emotional needs.

  • Somatic Trauma Therapy – A body-based method that helps release trauma stored physically.

  • Neurofeedback – A non-invasive technique that trains the brain to regulate stress responses.

  • Clinical Supervision – Support for professionals seeking reflective, trauma-informed guidance.

In addition, I provide therapy for a variety of conditions such as:

  • Developmental and complex trauma

  • PTSD and dissociation

  • Chronic stress and physical symptoms like fibromyalgia or fatigue

  • Emotional difficulties such as anxiety, grief, and low mood

Because trauma can affect the body as well as the mind, I focus on creating a safe and integrated healing process. This means therapy is not just about talking—it can also help your body feel calm and safe again.

Additional Information

Trauma-Informed Integrative Psychotherapy acknowledges that every person’s story is unique. Therefore, I tailor your therapy to reflect your personal history, emotional experiences, and physical symptoms.
