Dr Derine Louw Clinical Psychologist Bellville offers expert mental health support for adolescents and adults. We provide tailored therapeutic interventions that help clients manage mood and anxiety disorders, trauma, grief, and body-focused repetitive behaviours. She combines her extensive experience with a patient-centred approach to ensure effective results.
Dr Derine Louw started her private practice in 2020 after working as a senior psychologist at Stikland Psychiatric Hospital in Bellville, Cape Town since 2010. Her experience spans psychiatric diagnosis and treatment, in- and out-patient psychotherapy, and working in multi-disciplinary teams. She also supervised students and colleagues and coordinated academic programmes as a lecturer at Stellenbosch University, Tygerberg Campus.
Dr Louw earned her PhD in 2019, focusing on cognitive training interventions for hair-pulling disorder. She uses both quantitative and qualitative methods, valuing patient experiences as much as clinical data. Her research sparked her interest in Body Focused Repetitive Behaviours, including hair-pulling, skin-picking, and nail-biting.
Dr Derine Louw Clinical Psychologist Bellville provides a range of therapeutic services. Intervention methods include Gestalt Therapy, Dialectical Behaviour Therapy, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, and Brain-working Recursive Therapy. Services are offered through both individual and group sessions.
Individual therapy sessions are tailored to each client’s needs. Dr Louw works with adolescents and adults, adjusting the approach based on the presenting problem. Sessions focus on providing strategies and skills to manage mental health challenges effectively.
Group therapy allows clients to engage in therapeutic work in a supportive environment. Groups usually consist of six to eight members. Clients benefit from shared experiences and learn from each other while improving coping strategies under professional guidance.
A clinical psychologist has specialist training in diagnosis, intervention, and psychotherapy. They hold a master’s degree in clinical psychology and must register with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) after completing internships and community service. Continuous Professional Development ensures they maintain high standards of care.
