Dr Johan Charilaou – CapeOrtho – Orthopaedic Surgeon – Brackenfell completed his MBChB at the University of the Free State in 2007. Moreover, he fulfilled a two-year internship at Victoria Hospital in Wynberg before serving his community service at Knysna Provincial Hospital. He then worked as a medical officer in orthopaedics at Worcester Hospital and Groote Schuur Hospital, honing his surgical skills under various mentors.

In 2018, Dr Charilaou achieved FCOrth (SA) fellowship certification from the Colleges of Medicine of South Africa and earned his MMed (Orth) degree, cum laude, from the University of Cape Town . Subsequently, he completed a subspecialist fellowship in arthroplasty at Stellenbosch University’s Tygerberg Hospital Arthroplasty Unit in 2019. Consequently, he remains a sessional consultant there, actively contributing to orthopaedic and trauma research.
