Meet Dr Jos Myburgh

Dr Jos Myburgh completed his MBChB and MMed in Urology at the University of the Free State. He earned a Fellowship in Urology (FC Urol SA) and completed diplomas in laparoscopic surgery from the University of Strasbourg and the Belgian Laparoscopic Urologic Group. During his years as a consultant and lecturer at Universitas Academic Hospital, he gained valuable experience managing complex urologic conditions. Moreover, he worked closely with patients in urologic oncology and functional urology.

He served as chairman of the Free State branch of the Prostate Cancer Foundation and contributed to national urology events. Additionally, Dr Myburgh still serves on the Free State renal transplantation panel and as a council member for the College of Medicine of South Africa.

Advanced Minimally Invasive Surgery

With a passion for minimally invasive surgery, Dr Myburgh developed a laparoscopic program at Universitas Academic Hospital. This program reduced recovery time for patients undergoing major urologic procedures. He also introduced ERAS guidelines to improve patient recovery.

Dr Myburgh performs robotic-assisted and laparoscopic surgeries for kidney, prostate, and bladder conditions. His work includes kidney and ureter repair, laparoscopic varicocelectomy, female pelvic repair, and management of intra-abdominal testes. Recently, he received certification to perform robot-assisted radical prostatectomy with the Da Vinci platform.
