Dr Julie Morrison is a highly qualified paediatrician and registered paed pulmonologist based in Cape Town City Centre. She completed her undergraduate medical studies at the University of the Witwatersrand and further specialized in paediatrics and pulmonology at the University of Stellenbosch. Dr. Morrison has also trained and worked internationally in Scotland and London, where she obtained her MRCPCH qualification.

With extensive experience, she has worked as a senior lecturer and as a pulmonology and paediatric intensive care clinician at Tygerberg Children’s Hospital and Stellenbosch University for over five years. Dr. Morrison has a deep passion for pediatric pulmonology, especially in managing asthma, cystic fibrosis, and infectious diseases of the lung. She also has an interest in integrative health. Dr. Morrison has contributed to significant research at the Desmond Tutu Research Centre and FAMCRU research unit, particularly focusing on HIV, Tuberculosis, Respiratory Syncytial Virus, and Rotavirus Vaccine trials. She is dedicated to providing high-quality healthcare for children.


Services

At the Chest & Allergy Centre, Dr. Morrison provides a broad range of specialized paediatric pulmonology and allergy services.

Paediatric Consultations

  • First Appointments: These last between 45 minutes and one hour, allowing for a thorough assessment. Where necessary, additional diagnostic tests may be conducted.
  • General Paediatric Appointments: These last between 20 and 40 minutes and cover a range of services for children from birth to 18 years old, including acute illness care and routine wellness checks.

Specialised Services

  • Bee Venom Immunotherapy: A treatment for those allergic to bee venom.
  • Bronchoscopy: A procedure to examine the airways and lungs for abnormalities.
  • Food Challenge Testing: Controlled testing to identify food allergies.
  • Immunotherapy: Treatment aimed at reducing allergic reactions.
  • Lung Function Testing: Assessing lung health and function for children with respiratory issues.
  • Oral Immunotherapy for Food (OIT): A treatment method for managing food allergies.
  • Skin Prick Allergy Testing: A quick test to identify specific allergens.
  • Sleep Studies (Polysomnography): Diagnostic tests for children with suspected sleep-related breathing disorders.

Inpatient Care

For children requiring hospitalization, Dr. Morrison offers inpatient care at the Centre’s child-friendly paediatric ward. In addition, the Centre operates a dedicated paediatric intensive care unit (PICU) for critically ill children, with a full multi-disciplinary team to support ongoing care.
