Dr Kaestner trained at the University of Stellenbosch and completed her postgraduate and doctoral studies at the University of Cape Town. She has held leadership roles in reconstructive urology and renal stone disease at Groote Schuur Hospital and has served as an academic program director at UCT.

In 2022, she became South Africa’s first female professor of Urology and currently serves as the secretary of the College of Urology of South Africa.
