Dr. Mari Retief is a neuropsychiatrist based in Pinelands, specializing in the field that bridges psychiatry and neurology. She graduated from Stellenbosch University in 2007 and furthered her training in psychiatry and neuropsychiatry at Stellenbosch University. Dr. Retief won the MS Bell prize for the best registrar research project during her training and presented her MPhil research at an international conference.
Since 2018, she has been in private practice and holds a sessional position at the Groote Schuur Memory Clinic. There, she plays a key role as an honorary senior lecturer at the University of Cape Town (UCT). Dr. Retief’s practice focuses on treating disorders involving both psychiatric and neurological symptoms, including dementia, memory issues, and behavioral problems linked to neurological conditions like epilepsy, stroke, and Parkinson’s disease.
