Dr Murphy Orthodontics, located in Strand, has been offering high-quality orthodontic care since 2008. In 2019, we moved to a newly renovated facility, equipped with modern technology and stylish finishes. As a result, we created a warm and welcoming environment where our focus is always on a patient-centred approach. This ensures that every patient can make well-informed decisions regarding their orthodontic treatment.
Dr Desmond Murphy qualified as a dentist in 1990 from the University of the Western Cape (UWC). After spending 14 years in private practice, he transitioned into orthodontics and completed his postgraduate programme in 2008. That same year, he opened orthodontic practices in Fish Hoek, Strand, and Hermanus. Furthermore, Dr Murphy is passionate about education. He currently serves as a consultant for the postgraduate orthodontics programme while also holding leadership roles in various educational and professional organisations.
Removable Braces
Removable braces are ideal for younger patients or those needing minor tooth adjustments. These braces are worn for approximately 12–14 hours a day. We provide two options:
Clear Braces
Clear braces consist of removable trays that gradually shift your teeth into position. Worn 24/7, these braces are not only comfortable but also discreet. They can effectively treat issues such as crowding, overbites, underbites, and gaps. Moreover, since clear braces are removable, they make brushing and flossing much easier compared to traditional braces.
Fixed Braces
Fixed braces remain attached to the teeth throughout treatment. We offer two types:
Maintaining good oral hygiene is essential throughout orthodontic treatment. We recommend brushing your teeth twice daily, flossing regularly, and visiting your dentist for check-ups. By following these guidelines, you can prevent plaque, tartar, and gum disease, ensuring that your mouth remains healthy and your treatment progresses smoothly.
