Dr Rabia Goolam was born and educated in Cape Town. In 1985, she obtained her BChD degree with distinction in prosthetic dentistry from the University of the Western Cape. She then specialised in prosthodontics and earned her MChD degree in 1992. Her dissertation focused on the use of wrought wire clasps in partial denture construction. Since then, the work has become part of the undergraduate dental curriculum.
