Dr Ryan Fuller is a Specialist Psychiatrist at MemoryCare Melrose, where he leads the Memory Disorder Programme. He graduated MBChB from the University of Cape Town before completing the Charing Cross Higher Psychiatric Training Scheme in London. Moreover, he became a Member of the Royal College of Psychiatrists (MRCPsych) and served as a Clinical Research Fellow at Imperial College London, focusing on neurodegenerative disorders.
Since returning to South Africa in 2010, Dr Fuller founded the MemoryCare Group, establishing memory clinics in Parktown, Alberton and, most recently, Melrose. Furthermore, he has pioneered concierge memory-care models that blend clinical expertise with patient education. He designed weekly memory rehabilitation workshops and trains multidisciplinary teams in digital cognitive assessment tools. Additionally, he mentors junior clinicians through case-based learning and fellowship exam preparation. Consequently, his practice remains at the cutting edge of geriatric psychiatry.
Memory Disorder Assessment
He performs detailed neurocognitive testing and structured clinical interviews to diagnose Alzheimer’s disease, vascular dementia and mild cognitive impairment.
Neurocognitive Testing
He utilises digital assessment platforms and validated rating scales to monitor changes in memory, attention and executive function.
Psychogeriatric Management
He integrates pharmacological strategies with psychosocial interventions to address mood disturbances, behavioural symptoms and sleep disorders in older adults.
Electroconvulsive Therapy (ECT)
He administers modern ECT under anaesthetic and muscle-relaxant protocols in a purpose-built treatment suite for treatment-resistant mood and psychotic disorders.
Telepsychiatry Consultations
He offers virtual follow-up appointments for convenience and continuity of care, particularly for patients with mobility limitations.
Family & Caregiver Support
He conducts psychoeducational sessions that equip families with coping techniques, communication skills and care-planning strategies.
Interdisciplinary Workshops
He leads group sessions on memory enhancement, stress reduction and brain-healthy lifestyle choices for both patients and caregivers.
At MemoryCare Melrose, Dr Fuller works alongside neuropsychologists, clinical psychologists, occupational therapists and specialist nurses to deliver comprehensive geriatric psychiatric services. The clinic features a neurodiagnostic suite, private therapy rooms and a digital cognitive testing lab. Moreover, patients benefit from weekly caregiver support groups and memory rehabilitation workshops, which foster peer support and shared learning.
Consequently, treatment plans adapt dynamically through regular case reviews and neurocognitive monitoring. The practice uses a secure PatientConnect™ portal to streamline appointment booking, test result sharing and telepsychiatry links. Therefore, families can stay informed and engaged without extra visits. Additionally, Dr Fuller hosts community seminars on healthy ageing and early memory-disorder detection across Johannesburg. He also collaborates with research institutions to pilot value-based care and digital innovation projects.
Ultimately, Dr Fuller invites prospective patients and their families to schedule a consultation or join an upcoming workshop at MemoryCare Melrose. By taking this first step, individuals embark on a personalised journey toward improved cognitive health and lasting quality of life.
