About Dr Sarah Chisholm

Welcome. I'm Dr Sarah Chisholm, a Chartered Clinical Psychologist based in Chelmsford. I hold registration with both the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) and the British Psychological Society (BPS). With over 15 years of experience across NHS and private healthcare settings, I provide psychological support for individuals of all ages—children, adolescents, adults—and also work with families.

Throughout my career, I have remained focused on helping people understand their experiences and find ways to improve emotional wellbeing. I aim to offer a calm, respectful space where you can feel heard and supported.

Services

Specialist Assessment and Therapy

I provide psychological assessment and therapy for:

  • Children and young people

  • Adults seeking emotional support

  • Families navigating mental health challenges

To begin, we explore the challenges you're facing and identify what you'd like to achieve from therapy. From there, we build a plan tailored to your specific needs, ensuring each step feels manageable and meaningful.

A Flexible, Person-Centred Approach

Because no two individuals are alike, I draw from multiple therapeutic approaches. These include:

  • Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) – for managing anxiety, depression, and unwanted behaviours

  • Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) – which encourages mindful living in line with personal values

  • Psychodynamic Therapy – offering insights into unconscious patterns rooted in past relationships

  • Systemic Therapy – helpful for family dynamics and communication issues

  • Solution-Focused Therapy – which highlights strengths and practical steps toward progress

  • Compassion-Focused Therapy (CFT) – supporting self-acceptance and emotional healing

By blending these techniques, I ensure therapy aligns with your goals and preferences. Moreover, I maintain a strong commitment to evidence-based practice while remaining sensitive to your individual story.

Additional Information Dr Sarah Chisholm - Charted

Many people seek therapy when they feel overwhelmed or stuck. Some face a specific issue, such as trauma, anxiety, or a family crisis. Others simply want a clearer understanding of themselves or support through a life transition.

Whatever your reason, therapy offers a confidential, non-judgemental space to explore emotions and challenges. I also collaborate with GPs, schools, and other professionals when needed—always with your consent.
