Welcome. I'm Dr Sarah Chisholm, a Chartered Clinical Psychologist based in Chelmsford. I hold registration with both the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) and the British Psychological Society (BPS). With over 15 years of experience across NHS and private healthcare settings, I provide psychological support for individuals of all ages—children, adolescents, adults—and also work with families.
Throughout my career, I have remained focused on helping people understand their experiences and find ways to improve emotional wellbeing. I aim to offer a calm, respectful space where you can feel heard and supported.
I provide psychological assessment and therapy for:
Children and young people
Adults seeking emotional support
Families navigating mental health challenges
To begin, we explore the challenges you're facing and identify what you'd like to achieve from therapy. From there, we build a plan tailored to your specific needs, ensuring each step feels manageable and meaningful.
Because no two individuals are alike, I draw from multiple therapeutic approaches. These include:
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) – for managing anxiety, depression, and unwanted behaviours
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) – which encourages mindful living in line with personal values
Psychodynamic Therapy – offering insights into unconscious patterns rooted in past relationships
Systemic Therapy – helpful for family dynamics and communication issues
Solution-Focused Therapy – which highlights strengths and practical steps toward progress
Compassion-Focused Therapy (CFT) – supporting self-acceptance and emotional healing
By blending these techniques, I ensure therapy aligns with your goals and preferences. Moreover, I maintain a strong commitment to evidence-based practice while remaining sensitive to your individual story.
Many people seek therapy when they feel overwhelmed or stuck. Some face a specific issue, such as trauma, anxiety, or a family crisis. Others simply want a clearer understanding of themselves or support through a life transition.
Whatever your reason, therapy offers a confidential, non-judgemental space to explore emotions and challenges. I also collaborate with GPs, schools, and other professionals when needed—always with your consent.
