Dr Sharon Williams is a highly skilled and experienced Ear, Nose, and Throat (ENT) specialist based in Foreshore, Cape Town. With an extensive career that spans over three decades, Dr Williams has built a reputation for offering comprehensive, patient-focused care across a wide range of ENT conditions.
Dr Williams obtained her MBBCh degree from the University of the Witwatersrand in 1986 and has since accumulated invaluable experience working in various teaching hospitals and medical institutions, both locally and internationally. A unique highlight of her early career was her elective period in Plastic Surgery and Child Psychiatry at Harvard University in 1984, a pivotal year in the country’s history, with Archbishop Desmond Tutu winning the Nobel Peace Prize.
Specialising in otorhinolaryngology (ENT), Dr Williams completed her training at Groote Schuur Hospital in 1994, where she also won the prestigious ENT Registrar’s Prize in Otorhinolaryngology. Her interest in research led her to Amsterdam, where she spent time in the unit of Professor Snow at the Vrije University, focusing on molecular biology, particularly in the context of Head and Neck cancer.
With a background in Immunology and Haematology, Dr Williams has a particular interest in allergy, viewing it through the lens of an altered immune response. She has been in private practice as an ENT specialist since 1995, and continues to offer the highest level of care for patients of all ages, from infants to the elderly.
As a general ENT specialist, Dr Williams provides comprehensive services to patients of all ages, addressing common conditions affecting the ear, nose, and throat. Whether it’s a child with frequent ear infections, an adult with a sore throat, or a senior with hearing loss, Dr Williams has the expertise to provide accurate diagnoses and effective treatment plans.
Dr Williams has a special interest in paediatric ENT, offering expert care for children suffering from ear, nose, or throat issues. Her experience in managing paediatric ENT conditions, including hearing loss, tonsillitis, and respiratory issues, ensures that children receive care that is both sensitive and effective.
Dr Williams is highly experienced in diagnosing and treating hearing loss and vertigo. She employs a variety of diagnostic tools to determine the cause of these conditions and develops tailored treatment plans, whether through medical intervention, therapy, or surgery.
With a BSc(Path) in Immunology and Haematology, Dr Williams has developed a strong focus on allergies, particularly allergic rhinitis. She offers advanced diagnostic and treatment options, including allergy testing, immunotherapy, and management strategies to help patients alleviate symptoms caused by allergies.
Dr Williams offers specialised care for those who rely heavily on their voice, such as singers, actors, teachers, and public speakers. Her expertise in the anatomy and function of the vocal cords ensures a thorough approach to voice-related concerns, helping individuals maintain optimal vocal health.
In addition to her ENT expertise, Dr Williams has a keen interest in integrative medicine, having completed a Certificate Course in Integrative Medicine in 2010. She combines traditional ENT treatments with a holistic approach, integrating lifestyle, nutrition, and alternative therapies to offer a well-rounded and personalised treatment plan.
