Dr Winile Makhaye completed her Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBChB) at the Nelson R Mandela School of Medicine in 2008. She then completed her internship at Prince Mshiyeni Memorial Hospital. After that, she worked as a Junior Medical Officer at Themba Hospital in Mpumalanga in 2011. During this time, she also completed extra training in Basic Surgical Skills and Advanced Trauma Life Support.
She later chose to specialise in ENT. In 2012, she worked as an ENT Registrar at King Edward VIII Hospital. She continued to build her skills and passed her Fellowship in Otolaryngology (FCORL) in 2018 at the College of Medicine of South Africa.

After completing her specialist training, Dr Makhaye worked as a Grade 2 Medical Officer in the ENT Department at Addington Hospital. She also worked as a consultant there. As a result, she gained strong experience in diagnosing and treating a wide range of ENT conditions.
