Du Raan Orthodontics is led by Dr. Erick Du Raan, a highly experienced orthodontist with a passion for delivering exceptional care and achieving the best results for his patients. Dr. Du Raan graduated from the University of Stellenbosch in 2001 with a degree in Dentistry and later earned his post-graduate Diploma, M.Sc Orthodontics, and specialist qualification, the Masters in Orthodontics, from the University of the Western Cape. He was even nominated as the best Masters student of his year group.

Dr. Du Raan is a professional member of the South African Society of Orthodontists and is a registered specialist with the Health Professions Council of South Africa. Alongside his professional qualifications, Dr. Du Raan enjoys spending time with his family, including his spouse Maretha and three sons. He also enjoys outdoor activities such as jogging, hiking, and socialising with friends and family.

Early Orthodontic Treatment
We recommend that children have an orthodontic evaluation by age 7. While early evaluation doesn’t necessarily mean early treatment, it helps identify potential issues early, ensuring the most efficient treatment path and preventing future complications.

Conditions Addressed Through Early Intervention

• Severe Crossbite: Where upper teeth close inside the lower teeth. We use a palatal expander to widen the upper jaw gradually.
• Protruding Teeth: Especially those at the front, which may be prone to damage or affect self-esteem.
• Developing Underbite: If the upper jaw isn’t growing properly, it can be stimulated to grow using headgear before the age of 10.
• Severe Crowding: Where the jaw is too small to accommodate all the permanent teeth. Palatal expansion or tooth extraction might be recommended to assist with proper eruption of adult teeth.
