Emma Hegarty Physiotherapist Cape Town provides personalised physiotherapy care for active living, recovery, and long-term pain management. Her experience in neuromusculoskeletal, sports, and orthopaedic physiotherapy helps patients work towards lasting recovery and an active, pain-free lifestyle.
Emma Hegarty graduated with a BSc Physiotherapy degree from the University of Cape Town in 2016. During her community service year, she worked at Livingstone Hospital in Port Elizabeth across a wide range of physiotherapy areas. In 2017, she also completed her dry needling qualification.
After that, Emma worked at UCT Private Academic Hospital with specialists in acute and outpatient settings. She treated patients with complex conditions. In 2020, she became a qualified Matwork Pilates teacher through the Australian Pilates and Physiotherapy Institute.
Emma then developed her interest in neuromusculoskeletal physiotherapy further. She trained under Jane Soderlund-Moore, one of Cape Town’s top physiotherapists, at a private practice in Constantia. As a result, she strengthened her skills in sports and orthopaedic physiotherapy.
Emma continued her professional development by completing the Advanced Neuromusculoskeletal Physiotherapy Course in 2022 through the University of Witwatersrand. This training further improved her skills in musculoskeletal rehabilitation.
Emma and her husband, Ryan, recently relocated to Blouberg. They plan to establish roots in the community and provide exceptional physiotherapy care.
At Emma Hegarty Physiotherapy, Emma treats musculoskeletal, orthopaedic, and sports-related conditions. Her services include dry needling, Matwork Pilates, manual therapy, sports rehabilitation, and post-operative rehabilitation.
She treats back pain, neck pain, headaches, whiplash, dizziness, vertigo, and concussion. She also treats painful joints, including the ankle, knee, hip, shoulder, elbow, and wrist.
In addition, Emma treats post-operative orthopaedic conditions. These include hip, knee, and shoulder joint replacements, ligament repairs, rotator cuff repairs, spinal surgery, hip and shoulder labral repairs, and fixations for traumatic fractures. She also treats muscle strains, ligament injuries, overuse injuries such as shin splints and plantar fasciitis, tendinopathies, and chronic pain.
Emma uses dry needling to target muscle pain, tightness, and dysfunction. She also uses Matwork Pilates to improve core stability, posture, flexibility, and mobility. Furthermore, manual therapy helps improve joint mobility and reduce pain.
For athletes, Emma creates customised sports rehabilitation plans to restore function and help prevent injury. She also provides structured post-operative rehabilitation to support recovery after surgery.
When you book an appointment with Emma Hegarty Physiotherapy, you can expect a detailed assessment based on your needs. Emma creates a treatment plan that suits your lifestyle and goals. Therefore, each session focuses on recovery while also helping to prevent future injury.
Emma values open communication throughout treatment. You can expect to feel listened to and supported as you work together towards your best possible outcome.
Outside physiotherapy, Emma has a background in ballet, modern dance, Irish dancing, netball, and athletics. She currently enjoys Pilates, running, and padel. She also supports Ryan in his cycling and running races.
