At Garth Newman Psychology, we provide comprehensive psychological care to individuals of all ages. My approach is client-centred, ensuring that therapy is tailored to each individual’s unique needs.
About Garth Newman
I am a qualified clinical psychologist with extensive experience in working with children, adolescents, and adults. My background in state psychiatric care has given me valuable exposure to a wide range of mental health conditions, equipping me with the skills to address complex psychological concerns.
I have a special interest in mood disorders, such as depression and bipolar disorder, and I also focus on trauma-related issues. Additionally, I have advanced training in family and systems theory, allowing me to work effectively with family-related problems and provide holistic support to clients.
At my Brackenfell-based private practice, I provide both short-term and long-term psychotherapy, including play therapy for young children. Therapy is a safe, confidential space designed to help individuals improve their quality of life and achieve their personal goals.

Family Therapy
Family relationships play a crucial role in mental health. When issues arise within the family unit, they can significantly impact individual well-being. My approach to family therapy focuses on:
Identifying and addressing dysfunctional patterns
Improving communication and understanding
Promoting healthier family dynamics
By resolving conflicts and strengthening relationships, family therapy can provide a foundation for long-term emotional well-being.
Play Therapy for Children
Young children express their thoughts and emotions through play rather than words. Play therapy provides a structured and supportive environment for children to process emotions and challenges. Therapy takes place in a specialised playroom, using therapeutic toys and activities designed to help children:
Manage anxiety and depression
Work through emotional disturbances
Address behavioural difficulties
Cope with grief and trauma
Navigate developmental challenges such as autism
Additional Information
Understanding the Therapy Process
Taking the first step toward therapy can be daunting, but understanding the process can help ease any concerns. The initial consultation includes a comprehensive assessment, where I gather information about the client’s history, current challenges, and therapy goals.
Following the assessment:
I provide feedback and discuss any relevant diagnoses
If necessary, referrals to psychiatrists, occupational therapists, or other specialists will be made
A personalised treatment plan will be developed based on the client’s unique needs
The number and type of therapy sessions will be discussed to ensure the best possible outcome
At Garth Newman Psychology, my goal is to provide professional and compassionate support to help clients navigate life’s challenges. If you or a loved one need psychological support, get in touch to schedule a consultation.
