Description

James Sturdee – Registered Psychological Counsellor in Morningside

About James Sturdee

With over 14 years of experience in the field of psychology, I am a Registered Psychological Counsellor based in Morningside, Durban. My journey in mental health began in 2007, when I completed my Honours degree in Psychology at the University of KwaZulu-Natal. I then specialised in Trauma Counselling during my internship at McCord Hospital in Durban, passing my board exam in 2010.

My passion for understanding the deeper aspects of mental well-being led me to pursue a Master’s degree in Psychology at the University of Pretoria, where I focused on the relationship between childhood emotional neglect and self-compassion in adults. This research has shaped my approach to therapy, helping clients develop healthier emotional regulation and self-awareness.

I also have extensive experience in Employee Assistance Programmes (EAPs) at corporate and academic institutions, offering critical incident debriefing, soft skills training, and individual/group counselling. My aim is to help individuals and organisations build resilience, manage stress, and develop a strong sense of self.
