James Sturdee Registered Psychological Counsellor provides support to individuals facing a range of mental health challenges, with over 14 years of experience in the field.
My academic journey began at the University of KwaZulu-Natal, where I completed a Bachelor of Social Sciences Honours in Psychology in 2007. In 2009, I focused on trauma counselling during my internship at McCord Hospital, Durban. I then passed my board exam in 2010.
My interest in human resilience led me to complete a Master’s degree in Psychology at the University of Pretoria. My research focused on the impact of childhood emotional neglect on self-compassion in adulthood.
I aim to create a safe and non-judgemental space where individuals can explore their thoughts and emotions. As a result, clients can gain insight, develop coping skills, and work towards personal growth.
I offer individual and group therapy for a range of concerns. These include:
Therapy can provide a supportive space to understand personal concerns and develop useful skills. Therefore, sessions can focus on emotional challenges, relationships, personal growth, or important life changes. Both individual and group therapy are available.
I also provide corporate and academic institution support. This work helps organisations and institutions respond to mental health needs and workplace challenges.
Services include Critical Incident Debriefing, which provides immediate psychological support after workplace crises. In addition, Soft Skills Training helps improve communication, leadership, and problem-solving abilities.
I provide Employee Wellness Programmes to support mental well-being in professional settings. These programmes can help foster a healthier approach to mental well-being at work.
I also offer Staff Development Workshops. These training sessions focus on workplace challenges and provide support that is tailored to the needs of staff members.
Overall, my approach focuses on creating a safe, respectful, and non-judgemental space. Through therapy, workplace support, and training, I help individuals explore their concerns, build useful skills, and work towards personal growth.
