Janet Altmann Physiotherapist Plumstead provides individualised, hands-on treatment to help patients recover from injury, improve mobility, and prevent future pain or dysfunction. With decades of experience in musculoskeletal and sports physiotherapy, Janet combines clinical expertise with a patient-centred approach for optimal recovery and performance.
Janet Altmann is a highly experienced physiotherapist with a strong background in orthopaedic rehabilitation, sports injuries, and biomechanics. She graduated with a BSc in Physiotherapy from Stellenbosch University in 1996.
Since then, she has worked in the UK and New Zealand in hospital, outpatient, and sports clinic settings. For three years in Bedford, UK, she worked in inpatient and outpatient orthopaedic care. She then spent five years in Christchurch, New Zealand, at a multidisciplinary sports medicine clinic and travelled as the team physiotherapist for the Canterbury provincial netball team.
Janet completed a Postgraduate Diploma in Musculoskeletal Physiotherapy at Auckland University of Technology. She also completed an MSc in Physiotherapy in 2010, with research focused on neck and shoulder pain in nurses.
From 2008 to 2011, Janet worked as a lecturer at Stellenbosch University and contributed to undergraduate and postgraduate physiotherapy programmes. She also gained experience at the Sports Science Institute of South Africa, where she worked with athletes and sports rehabilitation.
Janet provides thorough assessments to identify the root cause of pain or dysfunction. Her hands-on treatment may include manual therapy, such as mobilisation, manipulation, and soft tissue techniques. She also uses stretching, strengthening, and mobility exercises through Physiotech software, which helps patients follow and track their rehabilitation programme.
Strapping and kinesiology taping can also support injured joints or muscles, aid recovery, and reduce strain.
Janet uses her knowledge of human biomechanics to assess movement during walking, running, and sports. She works with professional athletes, weekend warriors, and desk workers to improve movement efficiency and reduce injury risk.
Her services include gait analysis, sports-specific biomechanics, and postural and ergonomic assessments. These assessments can help improve posture and technique while reducing strain from long periods of desk work.
Janet also manages sports injuries across rugby, netball, swimming, and tennis. She supports post-surgical rehabilitation after orthopaedic procedures and helps people manage chronic musculoskeletal pain.
Janet has over 25 years of international experience in musculoskeletal and sports physiotherapy. She combines expert hands-on treatment with personalised rehabilitation and focuses on biomechanics to improve movement, prevent injury, and enhance performance. In addition, she uses evidence-based techniques supported by research and extensive clinical experience.
