About Judy Grant Clinical Psychologist Claremont Cape Town
Judy Grant Clinical Psychologist Claremont Cape Town, with over 30 years of experience. My academic journey began in the 1980s when I graduated from the University of Johannesburg with a BA in English and Psychology. During this time, I volunteered as a counsellor at an organisation that supported women and children affected by domestic violence.
After moving to the United Kingdom, I continued my studies and professional work. I attended courses at the London School of Counselling and Therapy and the London School of Economics. I also conducted research for a psychoanalytic training organisation. This time helped shape my professional path. It was also where I met my lifelong partner.
We later moved back to Cape Town. In 2001, I completed my Masters in Clinical Psychology at the University of Cape Town (UCT). During my studies, I developed a deeper passion for psychology. In particular, I focused on how the self develops within relationships.
My Professional Approach
I work within the framework of post-modern relational theory. This approach brings together insights from neurobiology and infant research. It focuses on how the mind develops through relationships from birth onwards.
My primary goal is to help clients understand their patterns of thinking and behaviour. I also help individuals identify self-limiting coping strategies, emotional triggers, and relational patterns that may affect their well-being. Through compassionate self-reflection, clients can develop healthier ways of thinking. They can also reduce feelings of shame and anxiety while building a stronger sense of self-worth.
As a result, this approach can support greater resilience and improved self-esteem. It can also help clients manage difficult emotions. In addition, it empowers individuals to make positive changes in their lives and relationships.
Services Offered
I offer a variety of therapeutic services to individuals, couples, and families. These include:
- Adult Psychotherapy: I support adults dealing with depression, anxiety, relationship difficulties, and self-esteem concerns. The goal is to promote emotional balance and clarity.
- Child Play Therapy: This therapy gives children a creative way to express their emotions. It can help children navigate difficult life events or emotional challenges.
- Adolescent Therapy: Therapy helps teenagers address issues around identity, relationships, and family dynamics. I work closely with adolescents to guide them through this challenging developmental stage.
- Couple Therapy: Couples therapy focuses on improving communication, resolving conflicts, and strengthening emotional bonds. I provide a safe and supportive space for partners to discuss challenges and deepen their connection.
