Mariam Salie Clinical Psychologist Lotus River helps individuals, couples, and adolescents navigate emotional challenges with expert guidance. I hold full registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) and the Board of Healthcare Funders (BHF). I began my academic journey at the University of the Western Cape (UWC), where I earned my undergraduate and honours degrees. Later, I pursued my Master’s degree in Clinical Psychology and Community Counselling at Stellenbosch University (SU), which deepened my knowledge and clinical expertise.
I provide therapy in both English and Afrikaans, ensuring accessibility for diverse clients. My practice, located in the Southern Suburbs of Cape Town, offers a confidential and judgment-free space where clients can explore their emotions, thoughts, and life experiences.
Therapy creates an opportunity for self-discovery, healing, and meaningful personal growth. It allows individuals to gain insight, build healthier coping mechanisms, and manage stress more effectively. Whether you need help adjusting to life changes, improving relationships, or overcoming emotional struggles, I tailor therapy to meet your specific needs.
I primarily use Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), but I also integrate psychodynamic techniques when beneficial. Since thoughts and beliefs shape emotions and behaviours, CBT helps identify and restructure unhelpful thinking patterns. Many people unknowingly develop limiting beliefs early in life, which later contribute to emotional distress. I guide clients through a structured process to challenge these beliefs and adopt more constructive ways of thinking.
Emotional processing, problem-solving, and skill-building remain essential parts of therapy. Since each client is unique, I adjust my approach based on personal needs and treatment goals. Rather than taking a one-size-fits-all approach, I work collaboratively with clients to create a plan that best supports their journey.
I assist clients with a broad range of psychological concerns, including:
Throughout my Master’s training, I worked at Welgevallen Community Psychology Clinic, where I provided psychotherapy to individuals, families, and groups from diverse backgrounds.
During my internship at 2 Military Hospital, I worked with children, adolescents, adults, couples, and families. I provided psychological assessments, including intellectual, scholastic, personality, and neuropsychological evaluations. I also participated in the hospital’s multidisciplinary team for the Neurodevelopmental Clinic, where I gained valuable experience in complex case management.
For my community service year, I worked at the South African National Department of Correctional Services. There, I provided psychotherapy, conducted risk assessments, and facilitated psychoeducational groups for male offenders. I also led CBT-based anger management groups, mindfulness sessions, and problem-solving workshops.
I have completed additional training in:
Beyond my clinical work, I lecture at Stellenbosch University, where I teach undergraduate and postgraduate psychology courses. Additionally, I supervise student clinical psychologists in training, helping them develop their skills and confidence.
Mariam Salie Clinical Psychologist Lotus River remains committed to providing evidence-based, compassionate, and client-centered therapy. Every person deserves support, guidance, and the opportunity to grow. Whether you seek help for a specific concern or want to explore deeper self-awareness, I am here to walk this journey with you.
