About Mind Over Matter Psychotherapy

Pardeep Atwal, CCC, RCC, is the founder and lead therapist at Mind Over Matter Psychotherapy Inc. She holds a Master’s degree in Counselling Psychology from the City University of Seattle, Vancouver, BC, and a BSc from the University of British Columbia. Pardeep continually develops her expertise and has completed additional trauma training, including certifications in Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR) and Sensory Motor Affect Regulation.

During her studies, Pardeep worked with children and youth, observing that many clients’ anxiety and dissociative symptoms stemmed from traumatic experiences. This inspired her research, which led to her thesis titled Neurobiological Guided Practices for Therapeutic Work with Childhood Trauma. She is passionate about applying trauma-informed practices to her therapy approach, ensuring that each client receives the support they need in a safe, empathetic environment.

Our Services

At Mind Over Matter Psychotherapy, we offer comprehensive services designed to support individuals, families, and youth in overcoming challenges. We use evidence-based methods and trauma-informed care to address both emotional and physiological impacts of trauma.

Individual Counselling

We provide individual counselling to help clients manage anxiety, depression, stress, and trauma. Our sessions are personalised to each client’s needs, guiding them to develop coping strategies, manage emotions, and foster overall mental well-being.

Youth and Family Counselling

Our youth counselling services help young people (ages 2-18) dealing with trauma, anxiety, or behavioural issues. We also offer family counselling, which focuses on improving communication, resolving conflicts, and building healthier relationships within families.

Trauma Therapy

Pardeep specialises in trauma therapy, using EMDR and Sensory Motor Affect Regulation to treat trauma symptoms such as dissociation, hyperarousal, and emotional dysregulation. These techniques provide a safe and structured environment for processing trauma.

Couples Counselling

We offer couples counselling to help partners improve communication, resolve conflicts, and strengthen emotional connections. Our sessions aim to create understanding and foster deeper bonds between partners.

Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT)

DBT is particularly helpful for individuals dealing with mood disorders or self-destructive behaviours. This therapy teaches emotional regulation, mindfulness, and coping strategies to help manage complex emotions and situations.

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)

In CBT, we focus on altering negative thought patterns that contribute to depression and anxiety. This approach helps clients change unhelpful thoughts and behaviours, leading to improved emotional health.

Motivational Interviewing

Motivational Interviewing (MI) is a goal-oriented approach that helps clients resolve ambivalence and become motivated to change unhealthy behaviours. It is especially useful for individuals seeking to make positive changes in their habits.
