Optima@RustenVrede is a private psychiatric clinic located in the peaceful Banhoek Valley on Helshoogte Road, just outside Stellenbosch, next to Hillcrest Berry Farm. Surrounded by stunning mountain views and natural beauty, the clinic creates an ideal environment for healing. We are dedicated to assisting children, teens, adults, and families with emotional growth and wellness in a safe, nurturing space.

What makes Optima unique is our child (and parent) units. As one of the first in-patient settings in South Africa, we offer children with emotional challenges the opportunity to stay with a parent for therapeutic care. This family-centered approach ensures that both the emotional needs of the child and the parent(s) are addressed together.

Our multi-disciplinary team provides expert care. This team includes psychiatrists, clinical psychologists, paediatricians, neuro-psychologists, occupational therapists, physiotherapists, and dieticians. We built the clinic with the specific purpose of supporting recovery, carefully designing each space to promote healing. With 16 beds in the Children’s Ward, Teen Ward, and Adult Ward, we cater to a variety of patient needs in a personalized setting.

At Optima, we treat a wide range of mental health issues, developmental disorders, and crisis situations. Most patients stay for about two weeks, though the duration may vary based on their needs and medical aid benefits. Our goal is to establish a strong foundation for healing and provide a constructive path forward.

• Individual Therapy: Our clinical psychologists provide one-on-one therapy, ensuring that each patient receives personalized attention during their stay. These sessions address the unique challenges that each patient faces.

• Occupational Therapy: Our occupational therapy groups focus on sensory intelligence, movement, and overall well-being. Patients enhance their life skills while also improving both mental and physical health.

• Physiotherapy & Dietetics: Our physiotherapists and dieticians work with patients to address the physical aspects of healing. These services complement mental health treatments, helping patients achieve overall wellness.

• Parent Therapy Groups: We recognize the important role parents play in their child’s healing journey. Our weekly parent therapy groups offer guidance on therapeutic methods, coping strategies, and how to support their children effectively during recovery.

Throughout their stay, patients receive close attention from our nursing staff. The multi-disciplinary team meets regularly to review each patient’s progress and adjust their treatment plan as needed.
