Play Therapy International (PTI)

Play Therapy International (PTI) stands as the largest and most progressive organisation governing therapeutic play and play therapy. PTI, the International Society for Play and Creative Arts Therapies Limited, promotes the use of play and creative arts to help children reach their full potential.

While play therapy thrives in many developed countries, South Africa still lags in this respect. PTI addresses the lack of training options and regulatory bodies in South Africa to ensure the safety, quality, and ongoing development of the profession. The organisation aims to make therapeutic play services available worldwide, benefiting all children.

René Ohlhoff, the managing director of PTI Training SA and course director for the PG Certificate course, brings extensive experience in play therapy. She holds an MA in Practice-Based Play Therapy, a PGCE, and a B.Sc Hons in Psychology. René has practiced in both the UK and South Africa and serves as a PTI supervisor. Her personal experiences with her children have deepened her understanding of the importance of secure bonds and the interplay between feelings, thoughts, and behaviour.

Play Therapy International (PTI) Mission:

PTI promotes the growth, quality, and credibility of the play therapy profession in South Africa. It provides world-class training courses, access to established regulatory bodies, and supports the ongoing professional development of local practitioners.

Introduction to PTI/APAC Courses:

PTI offers accredited training courses through APAC and the University of Chichester in the UK. These courses equip individuals with the necessary skills and knowledge to practice play therapy effectively. Local accreditation in South Africa is being pursued but is not yet in place.
