About

Professor Bernardo Leon Rapoport, M.D., M. Med. (Int. Med.), leads with passion and expertise in medical oncology. He has headed the Medical Oncology Centre of Rosebank since 1993 and has also served at Linksfield Park Hospital in Johannesburg. His journey began in Buenos Aires, Argentina, where he earned his medical degree in 1978. Moreover, he completed his internship at Tel Aviv University in Israel and a registrarship in Internal Medicine at the University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg. Later, he pursued a fellowship in Medical Oncology at the University of Pretoria and served as a Senior Consultant and Lecturer.

Throughout his career, he actively contributes to oncology research and education. In fact, he has presented over 130 abstracts at both local and international scientific meetings such as ASCO, MASCC, and ESMO. Additionally, he has published more than 60 peer-reviewed articles. His primary interests include Cancer Supportive Care (with a focus on antiemetics and infections), Breast Cancer, Solid Tumours, and the development of New Anticancer Agents. Furthermore, he received the SASMO Prestige Award in October 1992 and the Young Investigator Award in September 1991 for outstanding research contributions.

Professor Rapoport oversees an extensive Cancer Specialist Referral Network. This network includes experts in Radiation Oncology, Radiosurgery, Brachytherapy, General Surgery, Gastrointestinal procedures, and more. In addition, he actively mentors future oncologists by serving as a Postgraduate Examiner in Medical and Clinical Oncology.
