With over 270 stores across South Africa, Namibia, Lesotho, and Botswana, we continue to lead the way in eye care.

A History of Growth
We opened the first Spec-Savers franchise in May 1993 in Port Elizabeth. By August 1995, we had expanded to 24 stores. Over the years, we grew rapidly, now partnering with more than 270 outlets across Southern Africa. Our rapid expansion results from our commitment to high-quality care and affordable prices.

Mission Statement
We commit to providing affordable eye care to the Southern African public. We maintain high standards of quality and professional care with every patient.

Vision
We aim to become Southern Africa’s number one eye care brand. We plan to achieve this through exceptional services, fashionable eyewear, and a supportive environment for our staff to grow and develop.

Services

Eye Examinations
We believe eye examinations are essential for maintaining good health. These exams assess not only your vision but also detect underlying medical conditions. Our comprehensive eye exams include multiple tests, such as autorefractor measurements, tonometry to check for glaucoma, and digital retinal photography to monitor the health of your eyes. Our optometrists use advanced tools to examine every aspect of your eye health.

Here’s what you can expect:

  1. The Autorefractor: This test determines your prescription by measuring how light reflects through the eye. It’s quick and painless.
  2. The Tonometer: This small device releases a puff of air to measure the internal pressure in your eyes and check for glaucoma.
  3. Digital Retinal Photography: We take a photograph of the back of your eye to examine its internal health and track any changes over time.
  4. The Retinoscope: We shine light into your eye to assess the reflection from your retina, which is especially helpful for children or those who struggle to explain their vision.
  5. The Phoropter: This machine tests your vision with different lens strengths, helping us determine the clearest vision for both near and distant objects.
  6. The Ophthalmoscope: We use this tool to examine your retina, optic nerve, and retinal blood vessels.
  7. The Slit Lamp: This microscope allows us to inspect the front surface of your eye, checking for any imperfections, especially important if you wear contact lenses.

Eye Health Conditions
We diagnose and treat various eye health conditions, from common refractive errors like astigmatism to more serious conditions such as cataracts, glaucoma, and diabetic retinopathy. Our experienced optometrists provide the best care for both routine and complex eye conditions.

Hearing Services
We offer hearing services at selected stores. Our hearing tests are non-invasive and take approximately 40 minutes. During your visit, our audiologists conduct tests to determine your hearing loss and recommend suitable hearing aids if needed. You can test hearing aids the same day and make an informed decision about your needs. We schedule a follow-up appointment to ensure the aids are working well.

Lens Enhancements
We offer lens enhancements that improve your eyewear experience. These optional features can make your vision clearer, more comfortable, and more suited to your lifestyle. Our options include:

  • Climate Eyes: These photochromic lenses adjust to lighting conditions, offering UV protection without the need for separate prescription sunglasses.
  • Polarized Lenses: These lenses block glare and improve contrast, perfect for outdoor activities and reducing strain.
  • Anti-Reflective Coating: Ideal for night drivers or those working in front of a computer, this coating reduces glare from headlights and screens.
  • Hard Coat: This scratch-resistant coating provides extra durability and protection for your lenses, making them more resistant to everyday wear.
  • UV Coat: This protective coating helps shield your eyes from harmful UV rays, reducing the risk of cataracts and retinal damage.
