Meet Dave: Experienced Clinical Psychologist

In 2005, I completed my undergraduate training in psychology and education at the University of Pretoria. Shortly after, I lectured in Health Psychology, Research, Critical Psychology, and Abnormal Child Psychology. As a programme coordinator at the Centre for the Study of AIDS, I assessed and integrated HIV/AIDS themes into academic programs while leading several community projects.

After earning my master’s degree in clinical psychology at the University of the Free State, I pursued an internship at the Free State Psychiatric Complex. In 2011, I worked as a community clinical psychologist at Uitenhage Provincial Hospital and Laetitia Bam Day Hospital. These experiences deepened my passion for serving communities and directly influenced my return to the Eastern Cape.

Expanding Clinical Expertise

In 2012, I worked with patients experiencing severe personality disorders and criminal behaviors at Mangaung Correctional Centre, a high-security facility in the Free State. This opportunity strengthened my clinical skills in forensic and correctional psychology.

By 2013, I had launched my private practice in Port Elizabeth. To stay professionally engaged, I expanded into neuro-rehabilitation, tertiary education, and employee wellness. Additionally, during the COVID-19 pandemic, I collaborated on media-based psychoeducational projects under Visionology. These initiatives reached a broad audience, including corporate and United Nations projects.

Since COVID-19, the demand for virtual and in-person consultations has grown significantly. In response, I expanded my Cape Town practice in 2021 to Claremont in the Southern Suburbs. Today, I provide face-to-face therapy in Port Elizabeth and Cape Town, ensuring accessible and high-quality mental health care.

Meet Derryn: Dedicated to Mental Wellness

In 2008, I completed my BPsych degree at the University of Port Elizabeth and interned at the Wilderness Foundation’s Umziwethu Project. This experience solidified my dedication to community-based mental health care.

After earning my master’s degree in clinical psychology at the University of the Free State, I worked in primary healthcare settings in Kroonstad, Welkom, and various schools. Later, I expanded my expertise in forensic psychology at Mangaung Correctional Centre.

Upon returning to Port Elizabeth in 2013, I focused on rehabilitation at Aurora Hospital, treating patients recovering from brain injuries and spinal cord trauma. In 2018, I rejoined Uitenhage Provincial Hospital, where I played a key role in psychiatric and trauma interventions.
