About Us

Unique Minds Academy (UMA) is a Ministry of Education licensed private school located in Barrie, Ontario. We offer a tailored educational experience for children from Junior Kindergarten to Grade 8, focusing on students with diverse learning needs. Our clinic is supervised by a Board Certified Behaviour Analyst (BCBA) and a Registered Clinical Psychologist, ensuring the highest standards of care.

At UMA, Ontario Certified Teachers (OCT), ABA Therapists, and Educational Assistants run our classrooms. Additionally, students can access essential therapeutic services, including occupational therapy, speech and language pathology, physical therapy, and nursing. These services are available through OHIP funding. Our aim is to create a supportive, inclusive environment that helps every child thrive.

Services

UMA provides a comprehensive range of services designed to meet each child’s unique needs. Our evidence-based programs aim to support both educational and therapeutic goals, offering effective interventions for students and families.

ABA/IBI Programming

We offer ABA (Applied Behaviour Analysis) and IBI (Intensive Behaviour Intervention) programming at $60 per hour. Students who require one-on-one therapy during the school day will undergo an initial assessment. From there, our team creates a personalised program based on specific learning needs. We utilise cold probe trials, visual systems, and functional communication training.

Key areas of focus include:

• Joint attention and cooperation

• Receptive and expressive language

• Social interaction and play

• Communication and life skills

Our assessment tools, such as ABLLS-R and PEAK, guide each program’s development to ensure targeted, effective support.

Occupational Therapy

Priced at $130 per session, our Occupational Therapy services aim to help children improve their daily living skills and increase independence. Our therapists evaluate each child’s needs individually and develop a tailored treatment plan. Services include:

• Therapeutic exercises

• Self-regulation techniques

• Adaptive strategies and assistive devices

The therapist will regularly track progress and adjust the plan to ensure the child’s success.

Speech Therapy

Our Speech Therapy service is available at $90 per session. Our Speech Language Pathologist (SLP) works closely with students to improve their speech and language skills. The SLP offers:

• Speech and language assessments

• One-on-one therapy for articulation and language comprehension

• Collaboration with teachers and parents to implement strategies in the classroom

Additionally, the SLP introduces assistive communication technologies as needed and monitors progress to ensure consistent improvement.

Before and After Care

We also provide a before and after school care program for children in Kindergarten through Grade 8, at a rate of $30 per day. The program runs from 6:45 am to 9:00 am and 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm, offering supervised activities designed to support each child’s interests and skills.

Additional Information

UMA Tuition costs $2250 per month, providing access to both high-quality educational and therapeutic services. Our Core Clinical Fees are $225 per month, which includes ongoing clinical oversight from licensed professionals, including psychologists and BCBA-Ds.

Should your child require additional support, our ABA therapy sessions are available on a one-on-one basis. The therapy plans are tailored to meet your child’s individual needs, ensuring effective intervention. These programs aim to help students achieve success academically and personally, enabling them to reach their full potential.
