Description

Marleen Germishuys Clinical Psychologist Loevenstein

Marleen Germishuys Clinical Psychologist Loevenstein, provides clinical assessment and psychotherapy services for children, adolescents, adults, and couples. My approach meets each person’s unique needs while creating a compassionate and effective therapy experience.

Marleen Germishuys Clinical Psychologist Approach

My practice mainly uses an integrative Psychodynamic framework. This approach aims to reduce symptoms while also exploring the deeper reasons behind them. Therefore, therapy can support long-term emotional growth and self-awareness. I also focus on creating a safe and supportive therapeutic relationship, which helps support meaningful change.

In addition to Psychodynamic Therapy, I use several evidence-based psychotherapies, including:

  • Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) to support emotional regulation and distress tolerance.
  • Schema Therapy to identify and address deeply rooted negative patterns.
  • Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) to help manage anxiety, depression, and other difficulties.

Qualifications and Clinical Experience

I am a registered Clinical Psychologist with HPCSA registration number PS 0131431. I hold several academic qualifications from Stellenbosch University, including:

  • Bachelor of Social Work
  • BA (Honours) in Psychology
  • MA in Psychology
  • MA in Clinical Psychology & Community Counselling

I completed my clinical internship at Fort England Psychiatric Hospital in Grahamstown. After that, I completed a community service year at the Department of Corrections in the Southern Cape.

I also completed formal training in DBT and Schema Therapy in New Zealand. During this time, I worked for two years as a Clinical Psychologist for the New Zealand Department of Corrections.
