Back in Action Physiotherapy Cape Town

Back in Action Physiotherapy Cape Town, Jackie Wells brings over 25 years of experience to injury treatment and rehabilitation.

About Back in Action Physiotherapy Cape Town

Jackie graduated from the University of Cape Town in 1997. She then spent several years in the United Kingdom, where she worked in orthopaedics, paediatrics, and sports injury rehabilitation. During this time, she also worked with elite athletes, including Cardiff Rugby Club and Fulham Football Club.

After returning to South Africa in 2004, Jackie established Back in Action, a busy physiotherapy practice linked to a Virgin Active Gym in the Southern Suburbs. Her treatment approach combines several manual therapy techniques, including joint and soft tissue mobilisation, fascial release, Lynotherapy, visceral mobilisation, strength and conditioning, and exercise rehabilitation.

Sports Injury Rehabilitation in Cape Town

Jackie’s background as a competitive athlete also shapes her approach. She has taken part in road running, trail running, cycling, and triathlons. Therefore, she has a strong understanding of sports-related injuries. Many clients have also lived with chronic conditions and struggled to find long-term solutions before coming to Back in Action.

Rehabilitation Pilates

The rehabilitation Pilates programme supports recovery after injury while helping improve posture, strength, and mobility. Sessions are available one-on-one or semi-private. This allows the programme to address dysfunctions caused by injury or repeated movement patterns.

In addition, clients who cannot attend regular in-person sessions can access long-form Pilates videos online for rehabilitation at home.

Strength Training for Runners

Strength training for runners supports injury prevention and better performance. The programmes build strength around the knees, hips, and ankles to improve joint stability and reduce the risk of sprains, strains, and ligament tears.

They also address common muscle imbalances linked to IT band syndrome, shin splints, and runner’s knee. Core exercises can improve posture, reduce lower back strain, and support better running form. In addition, strength training can improve power, speed, and endurance by increasing muscle efficiency and reducing fatigue.

Back in Action Physiotherapy Cape Town App

The Back in Action Pilates and Rehab App provides a fully online fitness and rehabilitation platform. Jackie, a qualified physiotherapist and rehab Pilates specialist, designed the programmes for all fitness levels.

The app includes live daily Pilates classes, 15–60-minute training and workout programmes, and rehab videos for back pain, knee injuries, hip issues, and shoulder rotator cuff injuries. It also offers beginner Pilates, power Pilates, Barre, mobility sessions, and strength programmes that let users track weights, reps, and progress.

Users can also ask Jackie questions about their rehabilitation and fitness journey. Therefore, the platform supports both rehabilitation and athletic performance with sessions designed by a physiotherapy expert.
