Jelly Beanz Trauma Support South Africa provides mental health support, therapeutic tools, and training for professionals who work with children who have experienced trauma and abuse.
Jelly Beanz is a child-focused organisation that helps children who have faced trauma, abuse, violence, and neglect. Our mission is to ensure that every child is free to live, love, learn, play, and grow while knowing that they matter.
In South Africa, many children face serious risks. One in three children experiences sexual abuse before the age of 18. South Africa also has the highest infant murder rate in the world. In addition, over one million children have become orphaned due to AIDS. Furthermore, one in ten high school learners in Gauteng views pornography daily.
Many children have little or no access to mental health services and emotional support. Therefore, Jelly Beanz reaches vulnerable children and provides care, resources, and protection.
Our main focus is direct therapeutic support for children. However, we also work towards wider change. We train professionals, develop therapeutic resources, and advocate for children’s rights. As a result, we can extend our impact and support lasting change.
Jelly Beanz provides individual and group therapy for children who have experienced trauma and abuse. In addition, we provide a safe and caring space where children can heal, express emotions, and rebuild confidence.
We create culturally relevant resources for African children. We also develop structured treatment programmes for professionals who work with traumatised children. In addition, our books and educational materials help caregivers, teachers, and mental health professionals support children.
We provide workshops and training for social workers, psychologists, teachers, and law enforcement. Our specialised courses cover child trauma, forensic interviewing, and managing inappropriate sexual behaviours in children. We also teach therapeutic techniques that help children process their experiences and heal.
Jelly Beanz raises awareness about child abuse, neglect, and sexual exploitation. We also promote policy changes that can improve child protection laws. Furthermore, we campaign against the harmful effects of pornography and online exploitation on young minds.
Edith Kriel is a respected social worker with over 30 years of experience working with traumatised children. She helped expand the Teddy Bear Clinic into a multi-level service. She also founded the Child Witness Project in the Western Cape and established the Healing Project for children who have experienced sexual abuse.
Edith is also a co-author of several books, including Voices of Hope – Healing Stories for Africa’s Children, Rainbows of Hope – Healing Stories for Africa’s Children, Protect Children and Help Them Heal, Our Bodies – Helping Parents and Teachers Talk to Young Children About Sexuality, and Psychological First Aid for Children, Adolescents and Families – A Guidebook for First Responders.
Marita Rademeyer is a clinical psychologist with extensive experience helping children and families affected by abuse, neglect, violence, and trauma. She has a special interest in managing inappropriate sexual behaviours in children and advocating against the harmful effects of pornography on young minds.
She also supports children who have experienced rape, crime, HIV/AIDS, and serious illnesses. In addition, Marita has worked with vulnerable groups, including youth awaiting trial, children with disabilities, and families affected by mental health struggles.
At Jelly Beanz, we believe every child deserves safety, love, and the chance to heal. Through therapy, education, training, and advocacy, we work to make a difference one child at a time.
You can support Jelly Beanz through donations. You can also partner with us to bring training and awareness to your community. In addition, you can spread the word about child protection and the importance of mental health support.
Together, we can create a future where every child is free to thrive.
