About Us

Founded in 1998, Yabonga Children’s Project began as a support initiative for women operating informal creches in their backyards. Over the years, we have expanded our reach and now run a dedicated children’s centre in Khayelitsha, welcoming 200 children daily. Our mission is to provide food, care, and support to children, as well as to empower the women who take on the role of caregivers.

Through various programmes, we focus on uplifting children, strengthening families, and fostering a sense of community. We believe that every child deserves access to nutritious meals, education, and emotional support to build a brighter future.

Services

Community Mothers

Our Community Mothers provide after-school programmes and serve meals in their homes, ensuring that children receive care within their communities. Donations support our training programmes, equipping these women with essential skills such as play therapy, life skills training, and educational techniques to better engage and support the children in their care.

Children’s Centre

The Yabonga Children’s Centre serves as a sanctuary for children in Khayelitsha. Here, we provide food, academic support, arts, and sports activities in a safe and nurturing environment. Every day, we serve meals to over 200 children, ensuring they receive the nourishment they need to grow and thrive.

Respite Programme

Our Respite Programme provides temporary residential care for children aged five to ten who have experienced abuse or neglect. Through your support, we are able to create personalised care plans and provide ongoing assistance to ensure that each child receives the emotional and physical care they need to heal and move forward.
